No video with Skype in Ubuntu

When I was trying to install skype in Ubuntu 10.10, I get no video picture. Although my camera works and the receiver can see my video, but I got a blank write screen on my laptop.

They all resolved with trying the followings:

Goto System>Preferences>Main Menu>Internet>Skype>Properties
change Command: from skype to

env XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 skype

But the video seems a little lag, not that smooth, you can improve that by this:

Create a bash file, I put it in my own “bin” folder, named “skype.sh”

Code:

————————————————————-

#!/bin/bash
export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

————————————————————-

Then make it executable:

Code:

————————————————————-

sudo chmod 0755 skype.sh

————————————————————-

Then goto System>Preferences>Main Menu>Internet>Skype>Properties
change Command: from skype to the address of that bash file.
